MATERIAL
Gold plated steel

TeCHNIQUES
gold touch up, conditioning, cold welding, pulling out the compressed structure
The sculpture arrived with the metal rod structure completely compressed. We pulled the piece apart, releasing the tension created by the compression. For this to work, we needed to find the main point of impact and go from there. Things that break or get damaged “want” to get back to their original form and we try to tune in to that. Multiple wires were broken at their connections, and needed to be secured. Since we couldn’t use welding, as it would damage the plating, we needed to employ a cold-welding technique.
