In the meticulous restoration of this19th-century Renaissance-style pietra dura table top, we were tasked with rejuvenating a stunning masterpiece adorned with a myriad of intricately inlaid hardstones. Originally encased within a wooden ring which had fallen out of favor with the owner, our first step involved delicately removing the entire wooden ring, revealing the exquisite stone rim edge beneath. We then crafted and installed four Belgian black arches to enclose the table.

Throughout the restoration, we encountered various challenges that demanded our utmost attention to detail. Sections of the stone rim had incurred damage over time, necessitating careful replacement. Newly fabricated segments of the Ocher stone strip and Lapis Lazuli stone veneer were seamlessly integrated to restore the table's original splendor. Missing moonstones had to be recreated and installed to harmonize with the existing composition. Loose stones had to be painstakingly removed, cleaned, reset and stabilized to ensure longevity. While the pietra dura table itself stands as a testament to the master craftsmanship of its era, our restoration represent a significant achievement, breathing new life into this exquisite work of art.
