STABIlization, replacing missing veneers, grainng

This item arrived with multiple splits in its veneer and substructure, loose and missing veneers, and a deteriorating older restoration. Multiple areas on the front and drawer edges had missing veneer sections. Fairly large areas on both front legs were missing wood and veneers. Several drawers arrived with split bottoms. The top had several gaps in the insets and several open cracks in the wood frame and the top left connection was cracked with material missing. The finish was dull and dry with flaking, cracking, and bleaching, especially on the sides, and the ormolu ornamentation was very dirty and uneven in color. We only removed the top coats in order to preserve the wood patina. To restore the ornamentation, we cleaned and oil-conditioned it. The marble top was in need of thorough cleaning, conditioning, and light polishing. Graining was done to the new materials, to imitate the marble, and blend it in with the existing materials, followed by color glazing and traditional French polishing.
